A brief introduction to enabling culturally safe health care

Overview: This half-day workshop is a brief introduction to the concept of culturally safe health care. It will assist participants to develop their understanding and practice of cultural respect and cultural safety through identifying professional considerations and self-reflection practices for working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians. It offers foundational ideas that can be built on through ongoing professional development, including more comprehensive cultural safety training, i.e. a two-day workshop.

Learning outcomes: There are three intended outcomes:

  1. To foster self-reflective practices that increase the likelihood of nurses and midwives contributing to culturally safe experiences for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander patients and colleagues.
  2. To recognise factors that underpin the health inequities faced by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians.
  3. To expand understanding of the importance of comprehensive cultural safety training for ongoing professional development.

2018-2019 fees: $4,500 per workshop (all fees are GST exclusive).

Fees may need to increase depending on the workshop location and required travel costs for the co-facilitators.

Participant numbers: Minimum of 20 people and maximum of 25 people.

Please contact Chloe Peters via admin@catsinam.org.au or 02 6262 5761 to book in a training workshop
